Trivia
- Billy McNeill was back in training as of the Tuesday before the game having recovered from the back strain that kept him out of the previous game against Raith Rovers. His return at centre half knocking John Jack back to the reserves was the only change in the team fielded against Raith.
- Sean Fallon continued to train for recovery from his knee injury. Bobby Evans was due to have the plaster cast taken off his back. Matt McVittie had his arm cast removed but the arm break was considered insufficiently healed and he had a cast back on the arm.
- The Evening Times published an interesting table of Penalties for and against. It came as little surprise that in four league games played so far this season Rangers were top of the league having been awarded 7 penalties (and scoring with all) by the whistlers.
- Celtic signed another youngster, Ian Lochhead, a 19 year old centre forward, from Drumchapel Amateurs.
Review
Celtic were undone by two goals in the opening 11 minutes but fought back and Aberdeen were holding on at the half time whistle. Fernie was the Celtic man making all the moves. In the second half Celtic pushed for a goal with the wind in their favour but to no avail. In fact Aberdeen added a third in the 10th minute of the second half and were cruising. Celtic's front line was failing to gel despite chopping and changing positions. In the end it came to Bertie Peacock to show the strikers how to score when he hit a screamer from 30 yards. A minute later Celtic had a good penalty shout turned down when Clunie handled, the referee deciding it was unintentional.
At the end of the month Hearts continued the dominant form which saw them take the League the previous season with a goal scoring record matched by no one. Celtic stood seventh in the table. Rangers were back in 12th spot having lost this weekend to Dundee. Bottom of the table were Falkirk with 1 point from their 5 games.
