Trivia
- This game had been arranged through Malcolm McDonald, ex-Celt and ex-manager of Kilmarnock. The occasion was the opening of the new floodlights at Griffin Park, Brentford.
- Bobby Evans was fit and had played one Reserve game and was expected to take his place in the starting eleven. Celtic took a travelling party of 16 players: Beattie, MacKay, Mochan, Fernie, Evans, Peacock, Tully, Jackson, Conway, Divers, Auld, Kurila, Crerand, Colrain, McVittie, Byrne. Billy Horn, the Brentford outside left used to play for Kilmarnock and was snapped up by McDonald after he had completed his National Service.
- On the day of the game Eric Smith became the licensee of the Malvern Bar in the Gallowgate (this would have been close to the Bellgrove Hotel). He changed the name to the Tartan bar.
- I am grateful to the Celtic Graves Society for help and information supplied on this game.
Review
John Kurila in his first representative game had a very good game. MxcVittie too in his first game back after the arm break established a good partnership with Jackson. Crerand was also a success at left half even though he was unaccustomed to the position.
