Trivia
- Following the Partick Thistle game, on the Monday Willie Fernie handed in a transfer request to manager Jimmy McGrory. His request for the move was so that "…. he could better himself.". The matter would be discussed at the next Board meeting on Thursday night (27th). By the Thursday there was no indication of a quick deal being done. Middlesbrough were said to be interested but had not made a bid. The deal finally went through on 1st December, Fernie signing for Middlesbrough for a fee thought to be around £15,000.
- Fernie's request opened up a can of worms and speculation on money. The club had spent a tidy sum roofing the West End enclosure. Plans were being drawn up for covering the East End enclosure and there was talk of replacing the Jungle with a purpose built stand, PLUS there was the issue of floodlighting the ground, something which Celtic had held off believing that it would not catch on. Clearly floodlighting HAD caught on and more and more clubs now had them available to help in winter games and to allow evening games to be played.
- In further news it was announced that Sean Fallon would continue to play this season but that next season he would start as a coach with the club.
- Celtic provisionally signed Alec Burns, a goalkeeper, from Cambuslang Rangers.
- Fernie was dropped for this game – though still available to Celtic; in came Pat Crerand; John Higgins came back on the right wing with Matt McVittie moving in one and Mike Jackson missing out. Hibs had 17 y.o. Davie Gibson at inside left recently promoted from their colts.
- The Scottish Schools FA sent a letter to the SFA complaining about Celtic playing a 15 year old on rtwo occasions in the third tier Colts team. The 15 y.o. was John Hughes of St Patrick's High School, Coatbridge
Review
A fast and exceiting game though both teams took time to settle but on five minutes Auld crossed from a throw in and Colrain won the ball under the bar to shoot home. Colrain continued to trouble Hibs and two minutes later he slipped to defenders and crossed for Higgins to head home. Joe Baker pulled one back on fourteen minutes. Hibs gradually got more into the game and Beattie stood up well in the Celtic goal. Celtic's youhful team showed bags of energy and spirit. baker beat McNeill again just before half time to score a good equaliser.
Celtic came out even stronger in the second half with Auld, Mochan and Conway going close and a succession of corners. baker got his hatrick in the 73rd minute when Beattie parried an Ormond shot and Baker put away the rebound. Auld had a good chance well saved and Conway saw a shot hit one piost and roll along the line rebounding off the far post and out.Hibs held out to the end to win by the odd goal in five.
A poor month for Celtic saw them drop from fifth to ninth in the League.
