Trivia
- January 1959 was a period of deep freeze and snow in Scotland. Celtic's game against Kilmarnock at home on the 3rd January fell victim to this as well as the game on the 10th against Raith Rovers away (only two games were played that weekend), the game on the 17th at home to Aberdeen (three games played that weekend). This game was arranged whewn the Aberdeen game was called off early during the week.
- Celtic sent a strong team south. Frank Haffey was given another run out in goal after Beattie's wobbles against Motherwell; Jim Kennedy came on for the second half at left back for Neil Mochan, Charlie Tully replaced Mike Jackson at inside right and Billy McNeill replaced Bobby Evans at centre half; and Malcolm Slater was given a chance on the right wing.
