- Celtic had been due to entertain Aberdeen at Parkhead on 28th January, a resceduled game from the postponed game of 17th January. The game was called off at 2:15 pm because of fog.
- Celtic, in common with other teams were experiencing difficulty in getting their part-time players released from their day jobs to take part in the midweek fixtures which were invariably afternoon kick offs. This had been the case in particular with Mike Jackson.
- Tully and Wilson were given run outs with the senior team, Bertie Peacock returned after his bout of flu.Slater was out with 'flu. Jimmy Duncan, ex-Celt, made a dramatic return for Albion Rovers having been in hospital with pneumonia three weeks earlier.
Review
The pitch was heavily sanded to beat the frost. Even so the pitch was treacherous underfoot with large areas frozen, particularly at the west end of the ground. Albion's goalkeeper Torrance picked up a nasty cut hand fifteen minutes into the first half which required stitching at the interval, though he came back on and played most of the second half. Jackson got the opening goal, a header from Bertie Auld's flighted free kick. After five minutes of the second half Tully injured a leg and was pretty much out of the game thereafter. Wilson got a second for Celtic with a fine header from a Smith cross and on 80 minutes Kerr, harrassed by both Colrain and Auld kicked the ball over his goalkeepers head for an own goal. Sammy Wilson added a fourth shortly afterwards.
Albion Rovers were far from overawed but did not have the quality of player particularly in the forwards to trouble Celtic.
