Trivia

  • This game is included to give a flavour of the resources in terms of players that were available to Celtic in 1959. The team is predominantly made up of the Reserves but contained eight players with first team experience
  • There were four substitutes in the second half – Fallon, Conroy, Carroll and Murphy. Fallon took over in goal, Conway moved from centre forward to centre half with McNeill going to right half, Conroy came on at left half, Bobby Carroll came on at outside right with Ian Lochhead moving to centre forward, Pat Crerand moved from right half to inside left and Andy Murphy came on for Alec Byrne at outside left.
  • It is believed that this game was played as an invitation to celebrate the installation of floodlights at Cappielow.
  • I am indebted to the Celtic Graves Society for help with this page.
