Review

The game was played in foggy conditions – a weather feature that seemed perpetual since the start of the year in 1959.
Thirds started better and had several good attacks before Celtic got up to speed. A penalty claim and a shot cleared off the line by the Hi-Hi showed Celtic edging in front but it was Third Lanark that went ahead on 12 minutes when Bobby Craig fired home from 10 yds. Celtic went back into the attack and only good saves from Ramage kept Thirds in front. Wilson hit the post just before half time but Thirds had the lead at the interval.
Celtic switched Sammy Wilson with Divers for the second half to allow Wilson a fuller role in his more usual berth. Thirds still attacked and Celtic pushed for an equaliser. McVittie was injured in a tackle but was able to continue. The build up play was good but the shooting boots to beat Ramage in the Thirds goal were lacking. However ten minutes from time Celtic got the equaliser in what had been a fairly evenly fought game, when McVittie scored. There was still time for Thirds to attack and Mochan had to head off the line 2 minutes from the final whistle.
