Trivia
- The draw for the next round of the Scottish Cup was made with Celtic drawn away to Stirling Albion.
- This was a 4:15pm kick off on the Wednesday afternoon.
- With Bertie Peacock out with 'flu, in came Pat Crerand promoted up from the Reserves; Matt McVittie was out with a cyst on his neck which required treatment and John Higgins came in on the right wing.
- Outside of this game SFA Council threw out a petition put forward by Kilmarnock asking that players called before the Referees Committee, which dealt with disciplinary matters, should be allowed a representative from their respective clubs in the hearings. The petition was supported by representatives of Third Lanark and Rangers. The petition was thrown out deciseively with a 22 to 6 vote against. Speaking against the motion was Robert Kelly of Celtic who said that the current position was already fair and that the players were not appearing before a judge and jury. He failed to note, however, that the players were appearing in front of a committee that could take away the players livelihood and make it difficult for any future prospects. The decision was a reflection of the times and the power of 'authority' rather than player power. That that 'authority' should be challenged was in itself seen as an affront to the status quo of clubs versus players.
Review
Bonthrone scored for Dundee in the 18th minute from a McGeachie cross. Celtic were a much poorer side than the one that had jsust defeated Rangers in the Scottish Cup, much poorer for the absence of Bertie Peacock and Matt McVittie. Celtic's equaliser came from the penalty spot early in the second half and with Bertie Auld absent it fell to Neil Mochan to despatch the kick.
