Trivia
- Chalmers, Auld and Jackson all picked up injuries from the Arbroath game but came through OK for this game. With the return of Evans and Peacock from international duty, McNeill dropped out as centre half to make way for the Scotland captain, but John Clark retained his position at left half and captian Peacock played at inside left. The game was played in cold conditions with the ground hard and a stiff wind.
- The new floodlights were trialled at Celtic Park during the week. Along with this, Celtic trialled numbers on the jerseys. The alternative strip of white shirt with green sleeves and the shamrock on the breast had red numbers on ther back. The normal hoops had black numbers. The experiment was dropped and no numbers would appear maintaining the tradition.
- In the election on the 8th October the Conservatives were returned with a landslide majority of 94 seats. In what would become typical, Scotland bucked the trend and Labour votes increased in Scotland.
Review
The stiff wind played a role in what was a dull game. There was a hint of luck about Conway's opener. When he challenged Clunie for Mochan's high ball he appeared to control the ball with his hand before shooting hard and low to beat Ogston. Aberdeen protested vehemently and long but the goal stood. before half time Aberdeen could have got a penalty when Fallon in goal appeared to impede Ewen. However the luck was with Celtic. Baird scored for Aberdeen 10 minutes before the end also with a degree of controversy and shortly before this Peacock was pulled down in the area from behind with play waived on. Bertie Auld also received a lot of 'attention'; throughout the game from Burns. Fallon made two good saves to keep it equal before the end.
Celtic had more chances and should have won by a larger score.
