Trivia
- This was a first game for Third Lanark under new manager George Young.
- In came Duncan MacKay at right back; Bertie Peacock reverted to his more usual left half position with John Divers back at inside left; Malky Slater got his first start of the season at outside right (and it was to be his last for Celtic).
Review
A game of missed chances for Celtic. After dominating the first half but failing to put away the chances they had, they succumbed to a well-playing Thirds side in the second half. Thirds scored first in a good passing breakaway move. Divers equalised just before half time from an Auld cross. However in the second half it was all Third Lanark and they scored a further three goals before Mike Jackson pegged one back just before the whistle.
