Trivia
- Dundee manager Bob Shankly (brother of Bill) had played virtually an unchanged team this season made one change moving former East Fifer Jimmy Bonthrone to inside right and bringing in favour of Albert Henderson in on the left. For Celtic, somewhat of a reshuffle. In came Paddy Crerand at right half, Eric Smith at inside right and Ian Lochead at centre forward for Colrain who dropped to the reserves.
- Fog had settled over much of the central belt for the latter half of the week and put pay to one game in the Second Division between Falkirk and Queen's Park. The first Division game between Aberdeen and Stirling Albion had a delayed kick off when the Stirling players' train was two hours late arriving in Aberdeen. The game was played in a fresh wind which had driven the fog away.
- This loss dropped Celtic to 12th in the table. The players were roundly booed from the park and the the directors hissed at in their box.
- The Reserves also lost away at Dundee 3-2. The team was Haffey, Curran, Kennedy, Clark, McNeill, O'Neill, Carroll, O'Hara, Colrain, Jackson, Byrne.
- Ticket arrangements for the Ne'erday game against Rangers were announced with the ground limit being set at 35,000 in a ground that could hold 90,000.
- As an interesting aside to the game, the English League Clubs had just adopted a new rule in that a player NOT seeking a transfer but sold by a club onwards, then the player was entitled to 8% of the transfer fee. However this was only payable to the player when he reached 35 or when he retired from playing for an English League club for good.
Review
Eric Smith had a good game as a restored inside right and nearly laid on the opener for Lochhead in the first ten minutes. Both teams found conditions tricky underfoot. The opener came from an Auld cross which Chalmers bundled into the net. The remainder of the half saw better action with both sides having chances to increase the score but it still ended 1-0 to Celtic at half time.
Dundee got an equaliser on the restart to the sound of silence within Celtic Park. That silence was further magnified when Dundee went ahead in the 64th minute from a solo Robertson shot. However parity was restored when Auld was brought down in the box and Mochan put away the spot kick. Henderson got the winner for Dundee with a shot from 25 yards.
