Trivia

  • A tough week for Celtic following the 2-3 loss at home to Dundee. Whilst critics were saying that they needed to invest in a seasoned goal scorer to encourage a front line of young forwards who were failing to find the net, and with Robert Kelly telling the supporters to come back in two years time when they would see a rebuilt team, tyhe supportwers appeared to be voting with their feet and staying away from games. What supporters wanted to see was a stable team given a chance to prove itself or fail and an end to apparent favouritism.
  • The manager (and Robert Kelly) appeared to appease the support with yet more changes. Fallon was out injured and Haffey came back in between the sticks. Both full backs from the Dundee game were replaced with Duncan MacKay and Jim Kennedy coming in, Donnelly being dropped and Mochan moving to inside left; Billy McNeill came in for Crerand, Auld moved to the right and Alec Byrne came back in on the left and Colrain resumed at centre forward – pretty much a wholesale turn round again.

Review

Celtic were a man down after ten minutes when Eric Smith had to go off with a leg injury. A Bertie Auld shot beat the keeper but was cleared off the line by an Airdrie defender. The team played well despite being a man down but failed to score. Leslie had a great game for Airdrie to keep it goallesss and Alec Byrne played well for Celtic on the left wing.
