Trivia

  • Frank Haffey continued in goal with John Fallon out injured. The problem was a thigh muscle strain which he had picked up at his work place. The team was pretty much the same as the previous game against St Mirren but with Dan O'Hara dropping out with Eric Smith back fit.
  • Celtic gave a trial to a young goalkeeper from Blantyre Celtic. Frank Connor would go on to become a first team player making his debut in 1961.
  • Kilmarnock played their new signing Andrew Kerr at centre forward. Kerr had played for Partick Tghistle before being transferred to manchester City. He failed to make an impact at City and given the opportunity he switched back to Scottish football.

Review

The game started in unseasonal sunshine. Killie began to get the upper hand andf they went ahead after a cute move and shot from new signing Kerr. Jusat before half time Mochan made the scores level with a long shot which travelled over the ghoalkeeper's head.
Celtic came out well in the second half and were determined to go for the win. Despite gfood attempts from O'Hara and Colrain and virtually camping in the Kilmarnock half they could not find the net. Five minutes from time the inevitable happened and after good work from Muir, Black scored to take the points for Killie.
