Trivia

  • The possibility of Tommy Ring ex of Clyde joining Celtic was finally killed when the player signed for Everton for £12,000. Speculation now linked Celtic with out-of-favour Hearts player Ian Crawford.
  • Back in came an uninjured and 'flu-recovered Bobby Evans for the young John Kurila. Auld, McNeill and Smith were still out nursing injuries but on the road to recovery.
  • Heavy snow fell in Scotland this week with trains being marooned and roads closed.
  • Arbroath were newly promoted to Division 1 this season and were having a pretty torrid time of it having won only four times at home in 22 games. They were rooted to the bottom of the table and already looking like relegation candidates, though Stirling Albion were doing their best to give them a contender for that accolade.
  • In outside news, BMC announced the building of a new commercial vehicle plant to be built at Bathgate which would employ up to 5,600 people.

Review

A fairly dull game saw Celtic in ascendancy from the off. Divers got the opener with a curling left foot shot after a pass from Peacock. Five minutes from half time Byrne scored with a mighty left foot shot. O'Hara had a goal disallowed for some infringement at the start of the second half. Carroll got the tird from a Mochan pass and Divers finished it with his second just before the final whistle.
