Trivia
- From the side that had defeated Rangers in the Glasgow Cup game two nights before, Auld dropped out to fully recover from the leg injury (thigh strain) troubling him and back in came the youthful John Hughes.
Review
Both teams played out a thrilling all-effort game. Smith grabbed the first goal for Thistle in the second half dribbling the ball around a prone Haffey and it looked like a winner till Hughes and Mochan were swapped and Hughes sent over the perfect cross that Carroll shot home from out of a melee.
In the other game Third Lanark beat Rangers 2-1.
