Trivia

  • Glasgow Cup semi-final played at Cathkin Park with a 7:15 kick off. The teams had just met in the League Cup with Celtic winning 1-3.
  • Celtic played a rearranged team. Out were Billy McNeill with a knee injury and in came John Kurila at centre half; out too was Bertie Peacock with John Claerk making a rare appearance from the reserves; Bobby Carroll had recovered from 'flu; and out too was talisman-like John Hughes with Jim Conway moving to centre forward and Charlie Gallacher also getting a start with Stevie Chalmers out. Third Lanark were unchanged from the League Cup side.
  • The game was played in the rain.

Review

Thirds played well against a Celtic side forced to rearrange through injury and the decision to rest key players for the League Cup tie against Partick Thistle which would be crusial for progress in that competition. Thirds had good chances to go in front but managed to spurn them all and their goalkeeper Robertson had a star game keeping out shots from most of the Celtic forwards. Fallon too had a good game for Celtic in goal. In the end the novice celtic replacements just were not as sharp as their seniors but good enough to hold their own along with outstanding performances from Fallon and the full backs.

The replay was set for the following Monday at Celtic Park.
