- The Final of the Glasgow Cup was played at Hampden Park with a 3:00pm kick off.
- Yet more wholesale changes to the forward line, the only forced one being the replacement of Bertie Auld, who was out with a recurrence of the leg strain, with Alec Byrne. Carroll went back to outside right, Chalmers came back in and Neil Mochan reappeared at centre forward. Partick Thistle were unchanged.
- Celtic and Partick Thistle had faced each other in the final twice before with each team winning one encounter.
Review
A tame opening from both sides but in the fifth minute the Jags nearly engineered a goal from a free kick with Wright teeing up a shot from Smith which Fallon did well to hold. After this the Celtic attack got going with efforts from all the Celtic forwards without any success. Despite having the majority of the pressure the half finished at 0-0.
After five minutes of the second half there was uproar when Tiny Wharton first awarded a penalty to Celtic for hand ball by Muir, only to be surrounded by protesting Partick players. After consulting a linesman, he rescinded his initial decision and gave a drop ball which Partick hooked away. Prolonged booing was heard from the Celtic fans in the crowd. Partick's centre forward picked up a leg knock and switched positions with Smith. In the 72nd minute Cunningham scored with a cute lob of Fallon. Two minutes later McParland added a second.
Celtic had had most of the play but failed to score and fell to the almost inevitable Thistle late goals. The passing was generally inaccurate and the shooting wild. The Glasgow Cup would not reside in the Celtic Trophy room this season.
