Trivia
- Celtic had been due to meet Dundee at home on the 3rd December. The game however was called off due to torrential rain which made the pitch unplayable. Both Willie Fernie and Steve Chalmers were injured at the time, Fernie with a muscle strain and Chalmers with a boil on his knee. Jim Conway had been in line for recall following the poor performance of the team through November. The game was rearranged initially for the 14th December weather permitting, as Dundee had a Friendship Cup game against Valenciennes on the following Wednesday. When that date failed a further rearrangement was made for Boxing Day
- Fernie was still out injured the following week and in came Conway with Chalmers moving one in. In too came John Hughes who, after starting the season, had spent the time since mid-September back in the 'A' Reserve side.
- The Dundee Utd rteam contained ex-Celts Rolando Ugolini and the recently departed Neil Mochan (who had been in serious scoring mood since leaving Celtic Park).
- The draw was made for the First Round of the Scottish Cup. Celtic were drawn away to Falkirk to be played on the 28th January.
Review
Mochan started the move in the third minute that lead to the opener. He played a 1-2 with Ormond then headed down the left wing before crossing for Irvine to connect with a left footer past Haffey. Mochan was having a fiweld day and the Celtic fans must have thought that it had been a mistake to part with the Smiler. Celtic, though, had their chances with both Chalmers, Conway and Hughes unlucky with shots. Hughes had the ball in the net only to be called offside, then had another from Chalmers chalked off for some infringement or other.
Three minutes after half time Celtic levelled with a clearance from MacKay collected by Auld. His cross-come-shot was half saved by Ugolini and in came Hughes to blast the ball into the net. Despite Celtic's domination after the goal they could not finsd a winner and the points were split.
