Trivia
- Celtic had been due to face Dundee in the rearranged fixture on the 14th. The game was called off due to ice and a frozen pitch and rearranged for the 21st. When this too failed the game was moved to Boxing Day.
- Plans were announced for a 16 club Division 1 by the end of the 1962-63 season. Plans were also in place to change the make-up of Division 2. All the proposals would be discussed at meetings to be held on the 29th December.
- In England 260 players met in Manchester and voted to strike from January 14th unless their demands for a new arrangement on contracts and pay were met. Their lead was followed by players in the Midlands the following day and it looked as though the whole basis of footballers payments would change or south-of-the-border faced no football in the New Year.
- Back in came a fit-again Willie Fernie with Chalmers moving back to outside right and Jim Conway returning to the Reserves. John Hughes retained his position as centre forward.
- Celtic had been pursuing Hearts for the signature of Ian Crawford who scored both the Hearts goals. They had tried to swap him for John Colrain but the deal had fallen through andColrain had gone to Clyde. Celtic waited to hear from Hearts how much they wanted for Crawford.
Review
After a decent start from Celtic they allowed Hearts to go ahead when Haffey palmed a corner straight to Crawford who neatly lobbed the ball over all the heads and into the net. Hughes was having a terrific game just like the start of the season and Hearts defenders found it hard to handle the big but agile player. Crerand got the equaliser on 35 minutes with a cracking shot from fully 30 yards.
The second half was less energetic. Shots came in but were handlesd easily by both goalkeepers. Haffey was finally beaten by a deflected shot from Crawford which hit a Celtic player on its way to goal.
