Trivia
- Stevie Chalmers had recovered from 'flu and started at inside left in place of Willie Fernie and Bertie was replaced by Alec Byrne.
Review
It could not have been a more unfortunate start for Montrose. From a Gallacher corner Divers miscued the ball which cannoned off the foot of McCorquodale and behind for an own goal. Celtic then killed the game with goals in the 10th and 11th minutes from Hughes and Chalmers. A fourth followed and Hughes second from a mis-headed corner which still found it's way into the net. Divers injured a knee and went to outside right before leaving the field entirely and Celtic played the remainder of the first half and all the second with 10 men.
In the second half a fifth goal by Byrne was an individual effort beating three before shooting. Chalmers second and Celtic's sixth came when he headed home a Duncan MacKay cross.
