Trivia
- An unchanged side yet again for Celtic. Hibernian however mixed the team up having suffered league defeats by both Celtic and St Mirren.
Review
Celtic were fancied by all to take this tie with ease. However Hibs had other ideas and it took till 5 minutes from the end to find an equaliser. Both goals came in the second half.
Celtic started very well and Simpson had to withstand a good deal of pressure in the opening minutes. Hibs defense appeared to be ably marshalled by Baird and after the opening flurry the Celtic forwards had trouble breaking through the line despite doing most of the attacking. John Hughes was getting little change out of Hibs centre half and was swapped with Alec Byrne.
Right at the start of the second half Kinloch scored for Hibernian and brought the attacking side of the Edinburgh club back to life. Celtic had to weather pressure for most of the second half till towards the end when they realised it was time to get after it. The equaliser came from a Billy McNeill clearance latched onto by Byrne who passed into the path of Chalmers to shoot home.
An escape for Celtic.
