Trivia
- The SFA selected a squad of 29 players for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Czechoslovakia at Hampden. The squad included Crerand, McNeill, Hughes, MacKay and Kennedy.
- There was still a chance of qualification before the game. For Celtic to qualify they had to beat Hibernian in this game and Partick Thistle had to beat St Johnstone.
- In an attempt to shake the side up after the poor show at Perth Crerand was welcomed back at right half and in came Price at left half; in the forwards, Chalmers switched wings with Fernie and in came Mike Jackson again
- Celtic fans invade the field in joy as they thought they had qualified from the group but news filtered through that St Johnstone had come back from 0-2 down at Perth to win 4-3.
Review
Hughes made the passes that gave Divers both his goals. Celtic forwards beat the Hibernian defense only to find Ronnie Simpson on form in the Hibs goal. Hibs goal came when Hibernian for once got a decent attack going and a low shot beat Connor who should have done better.
