Trivia
- Following the pitch invasion and mass brawling at the Scottish Cup semi final there were calls yet again for the licensing of football grounds so that authorities would have the power to withdraw a license .
- John Donnelly came in at right back for Duncan MacKay who was out with a cold.
- Frank Brogan scored Celtic's 5000th goal
Review
Though both teams had little to play for, both played the game as if the result was important. Brogan got the 5000th goal in the first half from a Crerand free kick. Harvey for Thistle suffered a knee injury towards the end of the first half and though appearing for the second, he was pretty much a spectator. Hughes added a second goal and at the end Mcbnride had what would have been an equaliser for an illegal challenge on Haffey.
