Trivia
- A Wednesday game with a 7:15pm kick off and the first League game of the season. This was an all-ticket game at the request of the police due to disturbances that had occurred at Brockville before. Because of this The Celtic Supporters Association recommended their members not buy a ticket and to in effect boycott the game. This explains the low attendance figure.
- The Fairs Cities Cup away date to Valencia was fixed on 26th September. This meant for a very busy week that September week with games also planned against Aberdeen, an Icelandic Select XI and Raith Rovers.
- Billy Price strained a thigh muscle against Dundee Utd and John Mcnamee came in at left half; John Divers was finally rescued from his purdah for leaving his boots at home and came in at inside right; also recovered from injury was Mike Jackson. Bobby Murdoch and Charlie Gallacher both dropped out.
Review
An easy win for Celtic. The defense was solid with plenty of options up front. Jackson and Byrne scored in the first half andf that took any urgency out of their play. Crerand made both the first two goals with free kicks. Hughes got a third for Celtic and Hamilton chipped in a consolation goal for the Bairns before the end.
