Trivia

  • An unchanged side for Celtic with the management feeling the forward line was the one that might maintain a settled run – however this meant no place for the bustling John Hughes, the artistry of Charlie Gallacher and the power of Johnny Divers.
  • Celtic played the game in their white and green-sleeved shirt with the shamrock on the breast.
  • There was the possibility of Celtic hosting another foreign Friendly with the hioped for visit of Brazilian club Santos on the 30th October. Celtic had offered a guaranteed £10,000 for the tie. Santos had amongst their team a number of Brazilian internationalists including the great Pele.

Review

Bobby Carroll had the ball in the net after three minutes only to be rules offside. This was a game of controlled defending from both sides. MacKay and Kennedy in their contrasting styles dealt with everything thrown at them. McNeill and Crerand adequately supported by O'Neill, who if anything dropped back to help the full backs, helped to break up attacks but were equally matched by Kilmarnock's half back line of O'Connor, McGrory and Beattie. Carroll's goal came just after the interval when he ran onto a well-placed and timed pass from Jackson. Kille equalised when a shot from the byeline spun off Haffey and into the net.
