- The League Cup Final was played at Hampden between Hearts and Kilmarnock. Hearts won 1-0.
- Strangely for Celtic….. The team that drew against Valencia in midweek were rolled out again except John Clark appeared to be dropped for his penalty miss and in came Billy Price who had just handed in a transfer request!
- Billy McNeill and John Kennedy were both sent to see a specialist regarding their respective injuries. Both were generally quick healers and these were taking longer than usual to overcome.

The opening goal after a dull first period, came from a Divers header. Airdrie equalised just before the half time whistle. The second half was all Celtic.
