Trivia
- Two Scottish First Division clubs were without managers when George Young, manager of Third Lanark, resigned on 13th December. This came about when the Third Lanark Board elected Bill Hiddleston as a Board member precipitating the resignation of George Young and three directors. Clyde were already without a manager and seeking a replacement. They eventually appointed John Prentice of Arbroath.
- Max Benjamin, the businessman behind the Friendly game whixch saw Celtic take on Real madrid, started negotiations to bring Tottengham Hotspur to Celtic Park in February.
- With both John Hughes and Bobby Murdoch out with ankle injuries picked up against Hearts the front line was re-jigged with John Divers moving to centre forward and Charlie Gallacher and Bobby Craig coming back in. Billy McNeill was moved to right half to replace the injured Pat Crerand and John McNamee was at centre half.
Review
A quagmire of a pitch with lakes in the centre circle and goal mouths. The game was played in a hooley of a gale with wind and rain. Thirds lost the toss and face a constant bombardment of their goal in the first half. The wind was so strong that clearances from the Thirds goalmouth were going out for corners. However Celtic failed to score. In the second half Thirds had the wind in their favour. Gray scored after a flurry and the wind took the ball over. Cunningham (not Goodfellow) headed a second for Thirds. Celtic's away record had gone.
