Trivia

  • Scottish teams were again fairing in Europe. Dunfermiline met Celtic's vanquishers Valencia in the Fairs Cities Cup second leg at home and won 6-2 going out on away goals having lost 4-0 in Spain.
  • To add to managerial woes in the First Division, Bobby Flavell manager of St Mirren resigned. Clyde had just appointed a new manager and Third Lanark were also manager-less.
  • This game was due to be played on December 22nd but the game was called off due to fog. Heavy snow then fell over the weekend and the Glasgow Cup final set for the 24th at Hampden had to be called off. This game was set for the night of the 26th with the snow thawing and the ground soggy but playable.
  • Crerand and Hughes were fit again and came back in to the starting line-up. Bobbuy Craig was out and Charlie Gallacher switched to inside right.

Review

A disappointing game but a second win at home. Dunfermiline went ahead when Sinclair caught the defense napping. Celtic were soon level when Herriot punched out a Chalmers corner against his centre half and the ball rebounded into the goal. On 61 minutes Hughes collected and punched out shot from a 30 yarder from Brogan and put the ball away.
