Review
One of the worst performances from Celtic this season and one of the most one-sided Glasgow derbies in quite a while. The pitch was icy and iron-hard such as to be dangerous but the game went ahead. The Rangers players kept their feet better and thus went on to win by a wide margin. Davis' shot in the 12th minute was deflected by Crerand giving Haffey no chance at all. Rangers controlled the play in the second half and scored three goals in a 12 minute period of domination. Brogan was the best Celt on the field and arguably Crerand the worst.
This was the game that Pat Crerand had the half-time 'rammy' with Sean Fallon in the dressing room. Sean felt that Paddy wasn't giving everything to which exception was taken. Paddy felt that they should hold out rather than go for the all-out attack that Sean was calling for. Into the midst of this full-blown ruck stepped chairman Robert Kelly who was somewhat non-plussed to see a player arguing with a member of the management team, and Sean Fallon had always been a Robert Kelly favourite, and with his belief in the 'corinthian' spirit and that players were always gentlemen and would thus 'cede' to the gentlemen who were of course, the management, this outburst of Crerand's must have seemed almost beyond the Pale for Bob Kelly. Crerand found himself dropped for the next game against Aberdeen and then out for over three week's, not even making a return for the Scottish Cup game against Falkirk.
