Trivia
- The delayed final to the Glasgow Cup was played at Hampden Park on Monday 8th April, 1963 with a 7:30pm kick off.
- This was Third Lanark’s last ever trophy triumph, they sadly went into liquidation a few years later. Celtic’s last match against them was to come in 1965.
- At the start of the season the Partick Thistle manager had suggested that the winners of the Glasgow Cup should go forward as the city’s representative to the European Cities Fairs Cup competition for the next season. This was generally agreed to be a decent idea. However a month before the final the SFA had got involved and said this would have to go to committee, and that in any case the participation of teams throughout Europe in this competition was becoming an issue throughout the whole of the UEFA tournament. Therefore there was no guaranteed European place for the winners of the trophy.
- Celtic had players coming back from injury and Kennedy, Murdoch and Brogan were fit again. Billy McNeill was back from his international duty.
- Four games in around ten days took their toll it seems on Celtic.
Review
Celtic came up against a well-ordered and disciplined Third Lanark defense.
This was the same forward line that had given Partick Thistle a 6-1 thrashing not 6 nights before this game but for this final it was sadly at odds with upping the pace and beating the Hi-Hi’s defenders.
Bobby Craig was simply out-of-form and off the pace.
Divers was no more than a trier with pass marks for Chalmers, Brogan and Murdoch.
This was Third Lanark’s first win of the Glasgow Cup since 1909.
