Trivia
- Alec Byrne was freed by Celtic and immediately became the most sought after free player. Partick Thistle, Morton and Aberdeen were immediately on the move for his signature. Full timers freed were Alec Byrne, Benny Rooney, Ramsey Brown, Peter Gowans, Willie Smith, Bobby Symington and John Veitch. Only Alec Byrne had made a first team appearance. Three provisional signings were also released – goalkeepers Jimmy Fisher and Ian Leckie and G. Murney.
- After the rigours of the Cup Final the team was not announced till just before kick off. All the Celtic players came through the Final unscathed. John Clark, who had missed much of the season, was brought in for Billy Price who had a slight leg strain and was not risked, and Steve Chalmers started on the left wing instead of Frank Brogan.
- Celtic had little to play for in this game. In contrast Clyde had everything to play for. They were third from bottom 4 points above Hibs but Hibs had a game in hand. The result of this game meant that Hbs could just beat them and stay up if they won their two in hand games.
Review
A poor game by all accounts with the first goal somewhat controversial. Mcnamee had picked up a ball a fair way out and taking it forward hit a shot which hit Fraser on the hand. the referee gave a penalty which was converted by MacKay. Hughes scored an individual goal towards the end. Clyde's defenders played decently but the two attacks were both as lacklustre as each other.
