Trivia
- On May 8th, Scotland played Austria at Hampden. No Celts were in the Scotland team. The game was abandoned 11 minutes from time with Scotland leading 4-1 when the referee Jim Finney from England, ordered play to stop. 94,500 people had played to watch a reckless Austrian team go behind and then willingly foul. Finney sent off the centre forward Nemec which brought the Austrian officials onto the park manhandling the referee and nemec spat at the referee before he left.
- The Celtic reserves were well on the way to taking the Reserve League title. They played the Dundee Utd Reserves at Celtic Park with a team of Fallon; Young, Gemmell; Henderson, Cushley, Clark; Lennox, Craig, Rooney, Gallacher, Byrne and won 2-0.
- The first team was pretty much unchanged apart from a fit again Billy Price taking up his place again at left half and John Clark dropping to the Reserves.
Review
Celtic started well but dithered in front of goal wheras Dundee Utd took their chances. after 34 minutes the Arabs went ahead with Gillespie scoring from a Mitchell pass. Dundee Utd scored twice more in the second half. Haffey performed well in the Celtic goal but it was almost as if the Celtic forwards could not be bothered.
