Trivia
- Paddy Turner was fit again and available for selection. He came in at the expense of John Hughes with John Divers moved to centre forward. Also free from suspension was John McNamee and he came back at right half with Jim Brogan moving to left half and John Clark dropping out. St Mirren fielded an unchanged side from their last game.
- The ex-Celtic keeper Dick Beattie who was now plying his trade with St Mirren was out having broken his ankle in a game earlier in the season against Motherwell.
Review
Both teams put on a decent show in a back-and-forth game. St Mirren had the best of the early encounters and Haffey was busy in goal. St Mirren opened the scoring with a headed goal from Kerrigan. Celtic equalised soon after a lennox crossed was missed by Turner but picked up and put away by Chalmers. Beck was booked for a tackle on Lennox. Celtic were brighter in the second half. Chalmers hit the post from severAL yards out. On 59 minutes White got the winner with a shot that went in off the underside of the crossbar.
