Trivia
- Billy McNeill and Jimmy Johnstone were up in front of the beaks of the SFA referees Committee in midweek for their respective sending offs at East Stirling and Partick Thistle. McNeill was fined £30 and we never got to know what he said that made the referee send him off. Jinky however was suspended for seven days meaning that he would miss this game against Dundee but still be available for the ECWC game against Dinamo Zagreb. Charlie Gallacher took his place at outside right.
- Partick Thistle were put out of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup by Spartak Brno of Czechoslovakia. They won 3-2 at home but lost 4-0 this week away in Brno, thus going out to a 6-3 aggregate score. this left Celtic as Scotland's sole representative left in the European trophies.
- Frank Haffey was told that he would have to keep his ankle in plaster for at least another two weeks to aid his healing ankle ligaments.
- The A Reserves took on Partick Thistle A Reserves with a team of Madden; MacKay, Parkes; Henderson, Cushley, Price; Curley, Turnet, Young, Lennox, F Brogan.
Review
A fantastic game played by two good footballing sides that both wanted to win. Dundee almost went behind in the first minute but contrived to save Murdoch's shot after a glorious ****-up in the Dundee defense. Attack followed attack and both defenses played to their best as did both goalkeepers. Celtic played the more direct football but Dundee had a technical grace and superiority about them. The Celtic half backs made better links with the forwards and kept them better supplied. Dundee eventually subdued Hughes by putting several players on him whenever he got the ball. John Clark had an excellent game and the hardest task of marking Gilzean, probably the slipperiest player on the field. Dundee opened the scoring with a penalty when the referee judged Robertson had been tripped. Celtic equalised ten minutes later when Murdoch headed home a Hughes corner.
Another good month for Celtic with three wins and two draws and a forward line that knew the way to goal
