Trivia
- Referee Peter Roomer had previously been in charge of Celtic first Euro tie v Valencia in 1962.
- John Divers passed a late fitness test.
- Celtic were up against the meanest defence in the Yugoslav league. They were second in the league and had conceded only seven goals in 11 games. Much of this was down to their international full backs Belin and Braun. Their goalkeeper too had a fine reputation as did the huge centre half Markovic (he played right half here). They brought a party of 16 players for the tie.
Review
Dinamo officials had stated they had no idea how Celtic played and were looking for a draw in Glasgow but were blown away by a magnificent Celtic display.
Johnstone gave the first indication in Europe of the player he was to become and tore Dinamo apart. Murdoch played bravely on for 50 minutes after he had concussion after a challenge from a Zagreb player.
Celtic were superior in all aspects of the game and should have had more goals before the end.
Dinamo flew back from Renfrew Airport promising a harder game in Yugoslavia.
