- Celtic flew to Vienna and travelled the final 40 miles to Bratislava by bus.McNeill travelled though he was now in plaster for his back injury. He had a fitness test before the game and was ready.
- The summer cup is initiated but Celtic will not play in it if they qualify again for Europe.
- Game kicked off at 1.30 GMT. as the stadium had no floodlighting.
- After the game Stevie Chalmers 'claimed' the match ball. The officials went as far as going into the Celtic changing room to try and retrieve the ball but aftyer a bit of bargaining Chalmers was allowed tyo keep it.
- In the banquet after the game for both teams each Celtic player was presented with a set of cut glass wine goblets and the club with a magnificent cut glass vase.
Review
This was a night of glory for Celtic as Slovan were hot favourites to win.
The pitch in the Pehelne Pole stadium was in good condition after worries about frost.
Celtic stood firm in the first half with Clark, McNeill and Kennedy forming a fine defensive barrier in front of Fallon.
In the second half Slovan upped the tempo and Fallon was forced into making a couple of good saves.
With time running out and the home fans becoming irritable Hughes beat Moravcik on the half way line and ran half the field before scoring to the delight of the Celtic players. It was a sensational goal and Celtic were through.
