Review
Celtic won a penalty after three minutes when Baxter handled a Kennedy cross. Celtic continued at a fast pace and Simpson had to save from Johnstone and Chalmers. In the fifteenth minute Celtic won a free kick when MacKay was fouled with the referee booking MacKay for something he said after the incident. Johnstone and Baxter were also at each other and both received lectures from the referee. At half time there was still just the one goal in it.
Chalmers got a second from a Murdoch pass. However Hibs were not giving up and had a good share of possession but no real threat in front of goal. Divers added a third and Chalmers and Murdoch added two late goals to give Celtic a very satisftying 5-0 win
Hibernian at this time were managerless and their veteran 'keeper Ronnie Simpson was performing miracles in goal. Their main problem was not a lack of footballing skill but a toothless attack.
