- Celtic were due to meet Chelsea (with their manager being ex-Celt Tommy Docherty) on the 21st April at Celtic Park. An announcement was made that this wiould become an annual fixture.
- Rangers wrapped up the League for this season with a 2-0 win over Dundee Utd.
- John Divers came in for Hughes who was out with a foot injury.
- Billy Mcneill damaged stomach muscles and bruised his hip in a clash early in the game but played through the injury and started to receive intensive physio work to be ready for the MTK game. John Divers was also injured and in fact went off ten minutes before the end of the game nursing a knee injury.
Review
Jimmy Johnstone started the move and Bobby Murdoch finished it with a goal in the fourteenth minute. At inside left, future Manchester Utd manager Alex Ferguson could not find a way through the Celtic defense. Kemp equalised for St Johnstone early in the second half.
