Trivia

  • Celtic came out of the Kilmarnock game with a few injuries. Two-goal Charlie Gallacher was struggling with an ankle injury he’d picked up towards the end of the game.
  • Jim Brogan had also picked up a leg injury and Jim Kennedy was on the mend from his shin injury that had kept him out of the first two games. Gallacher and Brogan failed fitness tests and in stepped Kennedy and Divers

Review

A fast and exciting game. Motherwell put Celtic under heavy pressure but Billy McNeill marshalled the defense superbly. Lennox and Johnstone were also in outstanding form and Chalmers as belligerent and dangerous as ever. Lennox goal was the pick of the bunch, collecting the ball in midfield he beat three defenders before letting an unstoppable shot loose. Jimmy Johnstone made the first two goals with excellent work on the right wing before sending in telling crosses. Motherwell’s goal came from a rare slip by Fallon.
