Trivia
- Celtic came out of the Rangers game with one further casualty. Jim Kennedy was carrying a groin injury picked up in the game. Bobby Lennox and John Clark were training but not fully fit.
- Celtic in no manner took this game lightly even though East Fife were a Second Division club. All the players reported for training on the Wednesday afternoon before heading to Methil.
- Celtic played an unchanged side.
Review
Sean Fallon was right not to underestimate the Methil side. They played with more fire than Celtic and in their captain and centre half Young they had someone as effective as McNeill was for Celtic in marshalling a defence. The Celtic players were given no time on the ball and East Fife took their chances when they could. They even hit the bar later in the second half.
