Trivia
- The Celtic party of 18 players left from Renfrew airport on a charter on Monday morning.
- As well as the team that played against Dundee the following players were also included; Ronnie Simpson, Billy McNeill, John Divers, Bobby Lennox, Charlie Gallacher, Willie O’Neill and David Cattanach.
- Barcelona were not doing well in the Spanish League and were near the bottom of the table
- Ronnie Simpson’s debut and wholesale changes from the directorial team selectors. John Fallon had fallen from his high standards of late but changing the goalkeeper for a European tie…… McNeill had played one reserve game after being out for 2 1/2 months and Cushley at inside right was just bizarre.
Review
(From ‘The Celtic Football Companion’ by David Docherty)
A depleted but determined Celtic team won the admiration of the crowd for their second half performance.
Clark limped on the wing a virtual passenger throughout the second half, having hurt his right thigh in the 1st half. Murdoch dropped back to cover.
In defense 7 players, marshalled by Cushley and McNeill, formed a wall of defiance in face of Barcelona.
Celtic ended up playing with three forwards of Chalmers flanked by Johnstone and Hughes but Bobby Murdoch played out of his socks in the second half and did great work.
