Trivia
- Jim Kennedy was pretty much fit again and came back in at left half. At inside left for Dunfermiline was Alex Ferguson., Dunfermiline were riding a wave this season and manager Willie Cunningham had inherited a squad that had been put together and organised by Jock Stein before he left to manage Hibernian.
Review
Dunfermiline shocked Celtic with a quick opening goal. Despite plenty of chances and the majority of the possession and pressure in the firsat half it took till the fortieth minute for Celtic to equalise with a header from Gallacher from a Johnstone corner. Tommy Gemmell injured a foot towards the end of the first half and spent most of the second as a passenger hobbling on the left wing. kennedy dropped back with Gallacher also dropping back. This disrupted the Celtic formation but in truth Dunfermiline were better organised and used the possession they had well. Ferguson scored from Dunfermiline eight minutes from the end with a short range drive from a free kick.
