Trivia
- League Cup second leg; Celtic win 12-1 on aggregate.
- Billy McNeill was definitely out after his injury at Ibrox allowing John Cushley to make another appearance. John Fallon was rested and in came John Kennedy in goal for his one and only first team start. Stevie Chalmers came in at centre forward allowing John Hughes to head back to outside left and Bertie Auld going to inside left.
- Bertie Auld was made captain on the night in the absence of McNeill.
- The Celtic floodlights at last started to be overhauled with the importance of the upcoming night game in the Cup Winners Cup. Any failure during this game would have brought the wrath of UEFA down and a startw as made this week to overhaul the constantly blowing bulbs and failing electrics.
Review
Three goals in four minutes in the second half nailed this tie for Celtic. In the first half Raith had defended far better than in the first leg tie and there had been no score. This led all the papers to call for more strikers at Celtic which seemed a bit excessive given the aggregate score of 12-1. The fact that they were 8-1 up from the first leg certainly made the forwards somewhat more casual than usual.
