      • Blizzards hit Scotland during the week of the 12th to the 19th February. This cup tie at Dens Park was due to be played on the Saturday and everything looked good though the pitch was said to be icy in places. However on the Friday night a major blizzard hit Scotland, Tayside and the Highlands continuing on through Saturday causing the postponement of all the Cup games and this tie to the Wednesday night.
      • In the previous week both Jock Stein and Sean Fallon had gone to Ireland on a scouting trip and to build links to clubs and scouts in Ireland.
      • Bobby Murdoch spent most of the week trying to clear a heavy cold and hardly trained but with the postponement he made the side for the game. This meant an unchanged side from the one that put 6 past Falkirk the previous Saturday. For Dundee John Arrol, a 19 year old new signing, made his debut.
      • Stirling Albion failed in a bid to sign John Divers from Celtic. Divers had fallen out of the team in September and had even found it hard getting a game with the Reserves. Both St Johnstone and Partick Thistle had made unsuccessful bids to lure Divers away this season.
      • Willie Waddell, ex-Ranger and ex-Kilmarnock manager turned down the job as full time Scotland manager.
      • Rangers were due to meet Ross County in the Cup at Dingwall. Training Ross County was ex-Celt Sammy Wilson. The game was postponed due to a blizzard and many Rangers fans ended up trapped in snow drifts on the way up for the game.
      • The Celtic Reserves met Hibernian Reserves in the Second XI Cup at Celtic Park on Wednesday 16th winning 2-1. The team was Martin, Young, McCarron, Brogan, Cushley, O’Neill, Connelly, Lennox, J Quinn, Gallacher, Taylor. Also on this night Dunfermiline qualified for the quarter finals of the Fairs Cup with a 0-0 result making 2-0 aggregate over Spartak Brno.

          Review

          Celtic attacked as ever from the off with a game plan of putting the Dundee right back Hamilton under pressure. The left side attacked through Hughes, Auld and Gemmell time after time. The first goal was a thing of beauty of five minutes with Simpson throwing out to McNeill, Hughes making a dummy run and Gemmell sweeping past Hamilton to cross accurately for McBride to head home. 1-0. Dundee fought back and the rest of the first half was an evenly fought contest till one minute before the whistle. Chalmers too popped up on the left and received a Johnstone pass to hit a terrific shot which boomed off Arrol's chest and Stevie hit the rebound home. 2-0.
          Dundee were never in with a ghost of a chance in the second half and though Celtic had chances they failed to increase the score with Arrol saving a John Hughes penalty.
