Review
This was the game in hand which Celtic had over Rangers and the result brought Celtic equal to Rangers on points in the league. Celtic stamped their superiority over Dundee from the kick off and led 4-0 at half time. The two players that stamped themselves on the game were Tommy Gemmell who was always ready to raid upfield, and the trickery and sheer un-playability of Jimmy Johnstone out on the right wing. The first goal came when a shot from Gemmell was only palmed onto the crossbar and Chalmers tapped home. McBride then scored his first and ten minutes later Gemmell scored with a characteristic thunderbolt. McBride added a fourth from a Johnstone cross before the half time whistle.
The second half was somewhat more relaxed and though Dundee saw more of the ball they appeared to show little interest or knowledge in the way to use it well and the Celtic defense was able to snuff out their attacks. McBride scored a penalty before the final whistle when Auld was jostled off the ball in the area.
At the end of the month Celtic stood with Rangers at the top of the table equal on points.
