- The Celtic party of 17 players departed for America from the newly opened Abbotsinch airport on the 11th May for Bermuda via London. The players were Simpson, Young, Gemmell, Murdoch, McNeill, Clark, Johnstone, Gallacher, Chalmers, Lennox, Auld, Hughes, McBride, Fallon, Cushley, McCarron, O’Neill. The one absentee was Jim Craig who, as a dental student at Glasgow University was not available for the tour.
- Ex Kilmarnock players Jimmy Copeland scores for Bermuda.
- Gemmell scores twice when playing at centre forward as an experiment.
- Jock Stein is named as Scotland and Britain’s manager of the year – and in doing so won a £500 prize!
