Back in Britain, the government was forced to declare a state of emergency following the shipping strike which had gripped the countries. Food supplies to the islands had run so low that airlifts had to be arranged of essential foodstuffs and fuel. Food prices nationwide rocketed and powers were enacted to peg the prices of staples.
Review
Spurs team and management were enraged post game saying that |Jock Stein had broken an agreement NOT to bring on Jimmy Johnstone. Jinky had replaced John Hughes 20 minutes before the final whistle when the belief was that substitutes would only be used for injured players. Hughes playing his first game on tour and after recovery from a leg knock picked up at the end of the season, was claimed by Jock Stein to have picked up another knock and not to have been fully fit in the first place.
In the event the arrival of Jinky gave the Bhoys the impetus they needed and in the last quarter of an hour Lennox scored the only goal of the game.
