With the injuryto Murdoch the announcement came the next day that these trials would be scrapped for the future having outlived their purpose.
- Gemmell, Clark, Chalmers, Auld and Lennox took part in the Glasgow Charity game with McBride as sub against Leeds Utd as part of a 'Glasgow' team. This was the annual game which had replaced the Charity Cup tournament which used to take place at the end of the season. Murdoch was also due to play but was injured in the public trial.

Review
Celtic played some fine football against a robust tackling Hearts side who played their three retained but unsigned men – Wallace, captain Anderson and Higgins. Billy McNeill set the ball rolling with a defense-splitting pass for Lennox who was felled in the area. McBride scored from the spot. McBride clinched the victory two minutes from time.
