- Willie O'Neill is the first ever Celtic player to appear as a substitute when he replaces the injured Jimmy Johnstone.Tommy Gemmell went to right wing and O'Neill came on at left back.

Review
A tight game for Celtic. Though they had the upper hand in the first half they failed to score and St Mirren had chances of their own with Simpson having to make some good saves. In the second half Johnstone made the goal taking the ball right to the bye line before cutting it back for Murdoch to score.
