Review
Celtic sat tight for the first 20 minutes and easily contained Zurich’s attacks although Johnstone had actually scored in 3 minutes only for Chalmers to be ruled offside.
In 22 minutes the tie was effectively over when Gemmell fired in a wonderful shot from 30 yards out. Gemmell was now making himself a reputation as having one of the most powerful shots in European football. Zurich wilted after this and in 38 Minutes Chalmers scored following a corner from Johnstone.
In the second half the crowd sportingly applauded Celtic’s fine posession play and movement and the last goal came when Gemmell scored from a penalty after Neumann had downed Lennox in the area. After that Celtic eased up as the tie was over.
